Olga: born in 1990; Lena School; Mayville, ND Normal; Lutheran Normal, Sioux Falls; ticket agent in Lena; married Einar Balstad in 1917 (military service 1917 – 1919); lived in Minot, ND; had four children – Rolf (1920), Erling (1922), Naomi (1923), Paul (1928).

Johan: born in 1894; graduated from Zumbrota High (1912), Luther College (1916), Hamline high school (1916 – 1917); served with the Medical Corps in WW (1918 – 1919); graduated Luther College in 1921; married Sevella Hill, then 21 years old; called to be a missionary in Madagascar and Zululand on finishing the seminary; they had four children – Heloise (1922), Rebecca (1924), John (1926), Ruth (1927); Sevella died in Africa in 1928; married Jean Kerfoot in 1931; furloughs in 1919 – 1931 and in 1939 – 1943.

Nils: born in 1895; parochial school at Zumbrota, public school at Lena; Red Wing Seminary 1911-12; Minnesota Aggie School winters of 1914 and 1919: worked at home; when the parents moved to Zumbrota, Nils and Paul bought Homewood, then Nils took over; married Ida Reppe in 1920; spent a year in a sanitarium after contracting TB; subsequently sold Homewood and ran filing stations in Zumbrota, then St. Paul beginning in 1931. There were five children – Mary (1921), Sylvia (1924), Elisabeth (1932), Nils (1933), Shirley.

Erling: born in 1898; served in the Marines during WWI; graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1923; went over to the conservative “Little” Synod of the church and was ordained, as well as married to Clara Hegna (a cousin of Sevella Hill’s), in 1926; they had three children – Miriam , Lois Erling; he served throughout his life as (an influential) pastor in Madison, Wisconsin.

Paul: born in 1900; graduated form Luther College in 1925; another who went over to the “Little” Synod, being ordained there, as well; was married to Bergitte Broin, in 1928; they had three children – Luther (1930), Bernard (1933), Marguerite (1936); served as a minister in northern Iowa and then in southern Minnesota.

Anna: born in 1901; graduated from St. Olaf College in 1922 and the University of Minnesota Training School for Nurses in 1926; was a head nurse at the Glen Lake Sanitarium for many years; never married.

Sunniva: born Esther Mathilda Henrickson in 1914; her biological mother asked the grandparents to look after her when dying of cancer; legally adopted in 1916 with the consent of the widowed father; married Herman Opsahl in 1939; they had three children; farmed in Wanamingo.
